Doodle Shooter Beginner Guide: Move, Fight and Survive
Learn the essential controls, movement routes, weapon roles and survival tactics for your first Doodle Shooter runs.
Doodle Shooter becomes much easier once movement, weapon range and reload timing start working together. This guide covers the habits that make the biggest difference during your first runs through Doodle District.
Learn the essential controls
Use WASD to move and the mouse to aim. Shift sprints, Space jumps, and C or Ctrl starts a slide or air dash. The left mouse button fires or slashes, while the right mouse button aims or blocks. Use Q or E for the grappling hook, R to reload and G to throw a grenade.
Weapons are available on 1–4 or the mouse wheel. F provides a quick katana slash when you need an immediate close-range answer.
Keep moving through every wave
Standing still is the fastest way to get surrounded. Run broad loops through the streets and rooftops so enemies collect behind you instead of approaching from every direction. Slide to preserve speed, jump over low obstacles and grapple to a roof when the ground becomes crowded.
Do not grapple without a destination. Aim for a ledge, a safe reload route or a position that breaks enemy line of sight.
Match the weapon to the moment
- Rifle: the safest default for steady damage and medium-range fights.
- Shotgun: strongest when a slide or grapple lets you close the distance safely.
- Sniper rifle: use clear sightlines and aim carefully; reposition after a few shots.
- Katana: powerful at close range, especially when blocks and deflections are timed well.
- Grenades: save them for dense groups, chokepoints or moments when several enemies push together.
Reload before the next group reaches you. If a magazine runs dry under pressure, switch weapons first and reload once you have created space.
Prioritize dangerous enemies
Rushers and nearby attackers can trap your movement, while snipers punish predictable routes. Remove whichever threat is limiting your escape path first. Heavy and shielded enemies take longer to defeat, so avoid focusing on them while smaller enemies are surrounding you.
During a Boss encounter, learn the attack rhythm before committing to damage. Movement and survival are more valuable than one risky extra shot.
Build a better score
Kills, survival and consistent wave progress all matter. Keep your combo alive when it is safe, but do not trade most of your health for a small scoring opportunity. Health, ammunition and a clear exit route are what let a promising run continue.
When the run ends, check the result panel. Your top weapon and title reveal the style you relied on most, while survival time and wave show whether your movement plan is improving.
Use challenges as practice
A challenge link lets you replay a known seed or compete against a friend's target score. Because the enemy setup and drops are consistent, repeated attempts are useful for testing a new route or weapon order. Submit your best result to the anonymous leaderboard, then share the challenge again.
Start a new run and focus on one improvement at a time.
